Israel’s March Polished Diamond Exports $448 Million

Israel exported a net of $1.451 billion worth of polished diamonds in the first quarter of 2010, a 55 percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2009, Diamond Controller Shmuel Mordechai announced Wednesday. A sharp rise in rough diamond trade was also reported.

Belgian Net Polished Diamond Exports Total $212.3 Million in February

Belgium’s polished diamond market is continuing its recovery from the global recession, posting a double-digit growth in exports and imports. Belgium exported in February 582,934 carats of polished diamonds worth $875.26 million, a 1 percent growth in volume but a 15.4 percent growth in value, underscoring the rising prices of the goods.

India’s January Polished Diamond Exports +89%, Rough Imports +302%

India’s gross polished diamond exports in January totaled $1.71 billion, an 89 percent leap compared to January 2009. With imports totaling $1.04 billion during January, net exports stood at $673 million. The rise in gross exports reflects a comparison to a weaker period last year during the height of the economic depression as well as jump in stock replenishments after a better- than-expected holiday season.

India’s Net Polished Diamond Exports Rise 7%

India’s gross polished diamond exports grew by 65.7 percent in December, exporting $1.29 billion worth of polished diamonds with a total weight of 4.87 million carats, a 77 percent increase in volume compared to December 2008. This is the fourth consecutive month that polished exports have risen, according to provisional data released by the GJEPC.

Israel Takes a Blow, Polished Diamond Exports Fall 37% in 2009

2009 was a tough year for the global diamond industry. Imports and exports by the world’s diamond centers were far less than in previous years, according to official figures. However, in Israel, such figures were not made public in an attempt to not “depress” traders, an official at the Diamond Controller told IDEX Online.
