Is It Worth To Buy Certified Diamond?

Posted by admin in Certified Diamonds at October 21, 2009

Certified diamond or non-certified diamond, which one should I buy? Maybe that is the question that you may face when you want to buy diamond. Certified diamond will give you the peace of mind, but on the other hand, non-certified diamond prices are very tempting. I hope after you read this article will help you to choose which one that best for you.

What is diamond certificate?

Diamond grading report or oftenly called diamond certificate is a certificate that mention about loose diamond specification (diamonds clarity, cut, color and carat weight). This certificate issued by independent authorities and it’s not associate with any jeweler, so you can trust them.

The Best Diamond Grading Lab

There are many diamonds grading laboratory in the world. But the top three is the GIA (Gemological Institute of America), AGS (American Gem Society) and EGL (European Gemological Laboratory).GIA and AGS have a better reputation than EGL, I don’t know why people build that opinion. Some said that diamond graded by EGL, if you take it to the GIA, they will grade it lower. But for me, GIA, AGL and EGL are all the same. And why is that? Because I buy diamond that I like, not because GIA is better (or so what they said). For that reason Learn about Diamond 4c (Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat) and you must understand about it. When you go to the jewelry shop, you can ask the jeweler to see the diamond with a loop, and you can compare diamond that certified by GIA and EGL with a same grade. If you think that diamond certified by EGL is better or you like it more, don’t hesitate to take it. The point is the choice is yours, whatever institution that certified your diamond. But since the GIA has a better reputation, if you want to sell your diamond again, the price usually higher than diamond certified by EGL… ha ha ha that’s makes you confuse again right, GIA or EGL? My advice is if you don’t have a plan to sell your diamond again (e.g. your diamond wedding ring) you can buy diamond certified by EGL, because it’s usually cheaper, but if you have a plan to sell it again, it’s better you buy diamond that certified by GIA.

The advantage certified Diamond.

Diamond is considered as an investment. So if you want to sell your diamond again you don’t need a lot of energy to tell the jeweler that your diamond is good, it’s because they’ll value your diamond based on your certificate (but of course they will take a close look at your diamond, are you take a proper care of your diamond). In addition, if you insurance your diamond, they’ll value your diamond also based on diamond certificate.

The advantage of non-certified diamond.

Of course it’s cheaper… that’s all

Conclusion

If you want to buy good quality and expensive diamond or buy it online, it is best for you to buy certified diamonds, because you sure that you get the quality that matches with the price, also you can sure that the diamond is real, not synthetic or simulant. If you buy diamond as the extra accessories for your ring or your jewelry, or you don’t have a plan to sell it again, you can buy non-certified diamond. You can use the money to buy better quality ring or jewelry that you use to mount the diamond than spend all of your money just for the diamond. Always remember, buy diamonds that you like and use your own opinion, because you are the one that wear your diamond, not others.
