Choosing And Buying The Diamond Ring For Your Engagement
On the market today you don’t see many different styles of jewelry it seems there are hardly any new ideas out there on the market. Jewelry is something almost every woman adores. There are so many different types of metal that is used to make jewelry, platinum, gold, silver and titanium. Jewelry is suppose to last a long time so what many manufactures do is they use stronger metals in the jewelry like titanium. Diamonds will go with any type of jewelry, it can be used in earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets, it can also be used with other precious stones, but the most use of the diamond is in engagement rings.
The weight of a diamond is measured in carats. One carat is equal to two hundred milligrams of weight. In today’s world if the diamond is over one carat in size it will usually come with a certificate from the laboratory specifying the inclusions, color and size. Carat is the diamond industry standard, it is a unit of weight to measure diamonds. The carat itself is made of one hundred particular parts called points.
The best cut will display the diamond’s brilliance to the best effect. When looking at a stone you need to look from the top down, this way you can see all of the facets and you need to check to see if you can see any inclusions in the diamond. Another name for a teardrop diamond is known as pear and the emerald cut is an octagonal shape which is oblong, the marquise diamond is an oval and it has points at the end. However, the pavilion can be cut with 4, 6, or 8 pavilion main facets. There are so many different types of cuts, there is the round, square, pear and cushion. When a diamond is cut it is cut for brilliance and to let the light reflect off of the facets.
There are many shapes of stones, but the one shape that is most sought after is the round diamond, it has the greatest reflective power and brilliance. The brilliance is determined by the ability of the diamond to reflect light.
The transparent white colorless diamond is most popular variety, but diamond also occurs in colors. When color is prominent it is called a fancy diamond. There are many different factors that will create color in a diamond. One of those factors is carbon spots in the diamond itself which will through off the color.
You could use any diamond ring that you like to give for an anniversary present. The solitaire is another ring that people like to give as an anniversary present. Most people notice the engagement ring and not the wedding band. That’s why most women will want a nice round diamond of at least 1 carat in size. It is usually the engagement ring that is admired, not her wedding ring. And the setting of the diamond solitaire is there really just to hold the diamond.
Platinum is fast becoming the favorite choice in diamond settings and bands. When platinum is used for jewelry it is sometimes used for its strength and high shine and the ability to resist scratching. Platinum is geared toward a more modern look, whereas gold is traditionally beautiful.
Diamonds are Forever: How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Ring
A diamond ring is perhaps the most traditional and everlasting symbol of love and marriage. The circular nature of a ring and the sparkling diamond, a rare, precious stone which is eye catchingly beautiful and can take anything up to 3 billion years to form is a symbol of enduring love.
But all diamond rings are not equal; there are an infinite number of metals, designs and styles of ring and then there’s the diamond itself – each of which is unique. Diamonds are graded on four main factors: cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.
The cut of the diamond, refers to how well it was been sculpted by a diamond cutter. The diamond cutter’s job is to cut the stone in such a way that makes the best use of light which requires immense experience and skill. A diamond that is well cut will allow light to be reflected from one facet to another, then dispersed through the top of the stone back to the viewer’s eye, creating a classic diamond glitter and sparkle.
If the cut is too deep or too shallow, too much light escapes through the lower sides of the diamond (known as the pavilion) reducing the aesthetic appeal of the stone. Don’t confuse cut (which refers to the facets on the face of the stone) with shape; diamonds can be fashioned in a variety of shapes such as round (brilliant), pear, oval and heart shape. Diamond wedding rings tend to utilise more subtle design, favouring multiple small, round stones as opposed to a single large stone, which are generally the style of engagement rings.
The colour of a diamond can vary from a faint yellow, through to pink, blue and green. Colours are caused by impurities, so although different colours can look very pleasing to the eye, completely colourless diamonds are considered to be of the highest quality as they allow light to pass through easily, resulting in light being dispersed and split into the colours of the spectrum, creating a rainbow effect.
Most diamonds contain tiny impurities known as “inclusions”. These can interfere with the passage of light through the stone and are therefore undesirable. The gradation of inclusions found in a stone is known as the clarity. This can range from having none at all (producing what’s called a flawless diamond) to inclusions that are visible to the naked eye.
And finally, carat-weight refers to the weight of the stone as measured in carats. A diamond’s value is based on all of these factors; a large carat weight stone, which is perfectly cut and has excellent clarity and colour will cost more that a diamond that has certain imperfections or is smaller.
When choosing a diamond wedding ring, be sure to take your time and ask the advice of your jeweller, who will be able to show you a range of diamonds and rings of different metals and styles of setting. And finally – take your time before choosing; a diamond is forever, so make sure you are completely happy with your ring before you buy.

Considerations for Diamond Ring Shopping
While shopping for diamond engagement or eternity rings, many buyers are surprised by the large number of diamond ring options available. Whether you are purchasing a ring from a retailer or designing a ring to be crafted by a jeweler, a number of decisions must be made in selecting the perfect diamond ring. Besides being familiar with the 4 Cs which affect the value and appearance of a diamond—cut, color, clarity and carat weight—the following considerations may also help you in your search for the perfect diamond ring:
-What diamond shape do I prefer?
Perhaps the first decision in selecting a diamond ring is which diamond shape you are seeking. Diamond cutters craft diamonds in several shapes for diamond rings, some of which are round, princess, marquise, pear, and oval. The shape of a diamond determines its outward appearance, and you will likely realize a natural preference for a particular shape as you shop. Some rings have one central diamond, as in the traditional engagement ring, while others have several diamonds that may be the same or different shapes.
-What type of metal should I choose?
Yellow gold, white gold, platinum—there are a number of metals that are common for diamond rings. Platinum is a popular option for engagement rings and eternity rings because of its resilience, though it comes with a higher price tag than other metals. Silver, on the other hand, is prone to corrosion and thus is not the best choice for frequently worn rings such as wedding bands and eternity rings. Discuss with your jeweler the metal that is right for you, taking into consideration its color, durability and resistance to corrosion.
-What setting style do I prefer?
Something you will quickly realize when shopping for diamond rings is that diamonds are affixed to rings in a variety of ways. The way that a gem is set and held in place is referred to as its setting. Several setting styles are common for diamond rings, some of which are the bezel setting, channel setting, and prong setting. The shape and size of a diamond and the strength of the metal used may help determine the type of setting that is used in a particular ring.
Perhaps you already have in mind the type of diamond ring you are seeking, or maybe you prefer to explore all of the options until you simply discover the perfect ring. With the multitude of diamond ring styles available, having an idea of the shape, type of metal and setting style you prefer can help you in your quest for the diamond ring that best suits your taste and personality.

Tricks to Make Your Diamond Look Bigger
For most of us buying an engagement ring is a major investment both emotionally and financially. Finding and affording the perfect ring can be a tricky endeavor and for most of us it is a major investment especially if you are just starting a new live together with your partner.
If you or your partner have always dreamed about having a big shiny diamond but you are faced with the common reality that it is just not feasible, do not despair.
By choosing specific cuts, settings and shapes you can quite easily make your diamonds look grander then they actually are and most admirers will not know the difference.
The Shape
Choosing a particular shape can dramatically enhance the illusion of having a larger diamond (or any stone). If this is your goal then an oval, pear shaped or marquise (want we call diamond shaped from primary school). These elongated shapes will instantly make your diamond look larger than a round shaped diamond of the same carat weight.
The Setting
The setting for your engagement ring will be one of the most important decisions that you will have to make before you purchase your ring. There a pros and cons to all settings and ultimately your life style should influence your final choice. For instance some settings may be very beautiful to look at but will be impractical in your daily life.
If you are trying to get the biggest bang for your buck then try one of the following. The pavé setting involves a large number of small stones set very close together essentially creating a continuous surface of diamonds which appears as one large stone.
Another option is a bezel set diamond. In this setting the stone or diamond is encircled by a rim, this can be very effective in making your diamond appear larger especially if you choose platinum or white gold. The bezel setting is also a good for those with active lifestyles because it offers a securely held stone and has an overall low profile.
One of the most effective ways to make a diamond appear bigger is by using a technique known as an invisible setting. This is when diamonds are placed in a metal framework below the visible surface. Diamonds can be essentially placed side by side to give the appearance of one large stone, for instance four princess diamonds can be mounted to appear as one large solitaire.
The Cut
It is also possible to get a shallow cut diamond which do indeed appear larger than they actually are however there are trade offs. The biggest trade off is the brilliance of the diamond. In a typical diamond the light which enters will bounce of the sides the of stone and back to the eye where as in a shallow cut diamond the light passes directly through. To over come this issue the shallow cut diamond can be placed on a glass surface however it should be noted that this setting can be a bit complicated to fix if it becomes necessary.
Although these tricks can be useful in making your diamond appear larger than it is ensure that you ultimately pick an engagement ring that fits your personality, your lifestyle and your budget.
What Diamond Shall I Choose?
I would like to give you some advice on buying a diamond engagement ring or any diamond ring for that matter. I have compiled this for those with experience and those without so that you can make the best possible purchase and to keep as reference.
A diamond has three basic parts which are the crown, the girdle and the pavilion. Each is faceted differently but in the end, they compliment the whole diamond and produce the best possible sparkle. You want the facets to be of excellent symmetry.
When buying a diamond, you need to know about the four C’s which are cut, color, carat (weight) and clarity.
The cuts which make up the facets are what bring out the best in a diamond or the worst in some cases. The cuts cause the fire or brilliance of a stone to be brought out, which is all done by hand. If a stone has a crown that’s too shallow or too deep or a pavilion that is too shallow or too deep then the light will be reflected everywhere you don’t want it to go and cause the stone to be dim. You want an idea cut.
Stones come in many different cut varieties. There are many shapes other than round that can be cut. There are square, marquise, trilliants, oval, pear etc… The list goes on and these are all considered to be fancy cut stones. These are a little more unusual, for those that want something unique and not the traditional style stone.
The clarity of each diamond is measured by the amount of inclusions it has or has not. The difference between inclusions and blemishes is that an inclusion is an internal flaw and a blemish is external which is on the surface. The grade of clarity that you should pay attention to are flawless (FL), internally flawless (IF), Very very slightly included one and two (VVS1 & VVS2), Very slightly included one & two (VS1 & VS2) and you can stretch to slightly included one, two and three (SI 1,2&3) which are not too bad most of the time.
Depending on where the inclusions are within a stone and depending on the types of inclusions there are, if they are blemishes or inside the stone, it can effect how the light is reflected within the stone and back out. Sometimes inclusions can be beneficial though, if you go to insure your stone, the inclusions can act like a finger print to which you can ID it.
The ideal color for a colorless stone is classed as a “D”, which means there is no tints or hues and it is absolutely white, D, E & F are the most ideal colorless diamonds, G, H, I and J are tinted slightly and anywhere beyond that and you are looking at a yellow diamond and going into brown as you move along the chart to Z.
When dealing with carat (weight), bigger is not always better, you have to take into consideration an important factor. For example, if you are looking at a 1.25ct diamond next to a 1.0ct diamond and they both cost the same price and are the same color but the cut on the larger 1.25ct diamond isn’t the most ideal cut to allow the light to be used to its full potential as I’ve written before and so the smaller 1.00ct is the better option as the light will be utilized better by the stone and create the “fire” look, which the dazzel is so commonly refered to as, when the light is reflected out. You’ll be aiming for very good to excellent cut and remember, size doesn’t always matter.
Another alternative stone type to consider is a lab enhanced stone and in actuality, lab created diamonds are exactly the same as a natural diamonds, with the same elements and structure with the only difference being where the diamond is formed. Lab diamonds are grown under controlled conditions. They can have great quality, cost less and are valued and graded the same way a natural diamond is plus you can get lab reports for them too. The important thing though, if you are buying a diamond, is that you like it. Not because on paper it ticks all the right boxes but because you can see yourself wearing it everyday and not growing tired of looking it.
I hope this information is a help to you and your quest for buying a diamond. Thank you for the time you took to read this article.

Carats: Measuring Diamonds
Whether you are someone who is shopping for an engagement ring or you simply have a love of the history and the glamor of the diamond, you will find that one of the things that you need to understand is carat. Carat is one of the C’s that a diamond is going to be graded on, and it is essentially the unit of mass that has been created specifically for use with gems. Therefore, when you are looking at the carat measurement of a diamond, you are looking at its weight. This measurement of gems and diamonds specifically was set in 1907 at the Fourth General Conference of Weights and Measures.
When thinking about the carat measurement, you will find that a carat is considered to be precisely 200 mg, which in terms of English measurements breaks down to .007,055 of an ounce. A carat might also be known as a metric carat, and it can be divided up into 100 points that are two milligrams apiece.
The measure of a carat is one that has a long and interesting history, just like the diamond itself. Going back more than 500 years, you could easily see that people were fascinated by the Shah Diamond, which was found in central India. It adorned the thrones of generations of rulers before it was sent to Russia as a reparation for the slaying of a Russian ambassador. The Shah Diamond is an 88.7 carat yellow diamond of exceptional clarity.
The carat measurement itself gets its name from a French word that was originally Greek. The Greek word in question was keration, or “fruit of the carob,” and this relates the history of the measurement of diamonds to carob seed. It was once believed that carob seeds were known for their identical and uniform weight, though this was later disproved.
Of course when you think about diamonds, you will find that you are a place where you can think about how they can relate to you! Diamonds are a beautiful addition to any jewelry collection, and you will find that they might be more varied than you think. For instance, you might be interested in the cold and brilliant light that you can get from a white diamond, but don’t forget that diamonds can come in many shades, from pink to brown to green to a steel blue. You will also find that when you are looking into diamonds as jewelry that there are many terrific cuts that can get, including round, oval, marquise, pear and even a delicate heart shape. The right cut can really bring out the diamond so a good choice when you are selecting stones.
When you are looking to incorporate diamonds into your look, remember that you should think about what kind of effect you can get. For instance, are you interested in the sparkle of a single diamond on your hand or around your neck, or are you more interested in a glittering display? Choosing the right kind of diamond jewelry can help you get the simple or glamorous look that you are interested.
When you are looking to purchase a diamond, you will find that it is important to think about what you know when it comes to both the diamond’s history and to the weight that it carries. Make sure that you take a look at your diamond and appreciate it for its worth as well as its weight!
